Africa's Wildest Stadium
How has a 2010 stadium managed to stay within its initial budget while still producing an outstanding national asset? ?The Mbombela 2010 Stadium - ?Africa?s Wildest Stadium? ? used a keep-it-simple approach and maximum local content to produce one of Africa?s most exciting stadiums ? complete with giraffes - in the semi-rural landscape outside Nelspruit.
Mike Bell from R & L Architects has been lead Architect on the Mbombela 2010 Stadium since the project started three years ago. He will give an overview of the spectacular progress of the stadium, and draw key comparisons between all South Africa?s World Cup stadiums using up-to-date images. Achieving the best possible view of the action from all areas of the stadium is no easy task, and Mike's 3-D illustrations will provide fascinating information of how the best stadium sightlines are achieved, from the actual view point of the spectator. He will also give insight into FIFA's central role in putting together a World Cup and clear up some common misconceptions about the organisation. ??I am very positive about 2010 and the legacy it will leave?, says Mike.
